Messina 1347

Medium-heavy EURO game about the fight against the plague in medieval Messina.In 1347, merchant galleys from the Crimean Peninsula came to Sicily and docked in the old port of Messina. The galleys had rats. The rats had fleas. And the fleas carried a plague that would later become known as the Black Death. Over the next four years, half the population died in the cities of Europe.



Players take on the roles of noble families with land holdings in the area around Messina. They try to save the people from the plague by resettling them on their estates. As the plague worsens in Messina, players build small independent communities and try to fight the plague with fire.In the final turns of the game, the plague begins to recede and players bring back the rescued citizens to repopulate the resilient city of Messina.
